Your Vision Might Be Blinding You

Terry Lee

We all know the power of vision. A clear, compelling vision can inspire us, guide our decisions, and propel us forward. But what happens when that very vision starts to limit us? What if the picture you’ve painted in your mind is so vivid, so detailed, that you fail to see the opportunities unfolding right in front of you?

The Double-Edged Sword of Vision

Vision is a gift, but it can also be a trap. Sometimes, we become so locked into what we think "success" should look like that we become blind to alternate paths that might take us further—or somewhere even more fulfilling.

Obstacles arise, as they inevitably do, and frustration builds when things don’t go as planned. We may find ourselves questioning the vision altogether, wondering if it’s worth the struggle. But perhaps the issue isn’t the vision itself; it’s our rigid attachment to how we expect it to unfold.

This is where the W.I.N. Formula—*WHO you are, IGNITE your strengths, and NURTURE your growth and others’—comes into play. By applying these principles, you can move from frustration to flow, from blind spots to breakthroughs.

Step 1: WHO Are You in This Vision?

The first step in the W.I.N. Formula is understanding your WHO. Before chasing your vision, ask yourself: Who am I in this process? What core values and beliefs drive this vision?

Sometimes, the pressure to achieve can pull us away from our authentic selves. We become so focused on the destination that we forget why we started the journey in the first place. Reconnecting with your identity—your WHO—is a powerful way to reframe how you approach obstacles.

For example:

  • Are you pursuing this vision because it aligns with your true purpose, or are you clinging to it out of fear of failure?

  • Is this vision still serving you, or has it become more about proving something to others?

Understanding your WHO keeps you grounded and allows you to adapt when the road ahead twists and turns.

Step 2: IGNITE Your Strengths

Once you’ve reconnected with your WHO, it’s time to IGNITE. This step is all about leveraging your unique strengths and allowing them to shine.

When we fixate on one path, we often overlook the tools, resources, and creativity we already possess to carve a new way forward. Obstacles aren’t roadblocks—they’re invitations to innovate.

Ask yourself:

  • What strengths can I tap into to navigate this challenge differently?

  • How can I reimagine this vision using the resources I have right now?

When you lean into your strengths, you unlock new ways to move forward that may look different from what you initially imagined—but might ultimately lead to even greater success.

Step 3: NURTURE Growth Through the Journey

The final piece of the W.I.N. Formula is NURTURE. This involves cultivating patience, flexibility, and openness—not just in yourself, but in others who may be part of your vision.

Rigid expectations are often what lead to frustration and burnout. By nurturing growth, you allow yourself to embrace the journey rather than just the destination. This includes:

  • Giving yourself permission to pivot when needed.

  • Celebrating small wins along the way.

  • Seeking collaboration and learning from others who bring fresh perspectives.

When you nurture growth, you create space for your vision to evolve. It’s no longer about forcing reality to match your mental picture—it’s about co-creating with the process, allowing the outcome to surprise and delight you.

Let Go to Let Grow

Letting go of rigid expectations doesn’t mean abandoning your vision. It means trusting the process and being open to possibilities that may not have been on your radar.

The truth is, life rarely unfolds exactly as we imagine—and that’s where the magic lies. By applying the W.I.N. Formula, you can navigate the twists and turns of your journey with clarity, confidence, and adaptability.

So, the next time frustration builds and you’re tempted to give up, pause and ask yourself:

  • Am I holding too tightly to how I think this vision should look?

  • How can I refocus on WHO I am, IGNITE my strengths, and NURTURE my growth to keep moving forward?

You might just find that letting go is the very thing that allows your vision to expand into something bigger, brighter, and more aligned than you ever imagined.

What if your vision isn’t the end goal, but the starting point? Let it grow. Let it surprise you. And most importantly, let it guide you to the W.I.N.Side.
